White Chocolate Fudge Cake from Rick’s Dessert Diner? Or ooey gooey Chocolate Raspberry with layers of fresh raspberry cream from Konditorei? There will be a dozen bakeries at “The Great Cake Walk” fundraiser on March 15th at the Sacramento State Alumni Center, including, Ettore’s, Cupcake Craving, Konditorei, Cake Castle and Rick’s Dessert Diner, to name a few. All will be in attendance with samples of some of their best cakes for attendees. Proceeds benefit local non-profit Closing the Gap.
Did you know that two out of three students in Sacramento graduate from high school without the necessary courses to even apply, no less get admitted, to a state college? For African-American and Latino males, that number is worse – four out of five – pointing to a huge achievement gap in our public schools.
Closing the Gap is working to help change those statistics. Its mission is to is to help youth in our community, who have limited resources, pursue a better future by closing the academic achievement gap through a three pronged approach of Preparation, Education, and Vocation. e.Republic is a major supporter of Closing the Gap and is helping to produce the event.
Win a cake from a bakery when you enter the “Great Cake Walk”, watch a cake decorating demo or bid on live and silent auction items – from pastry lessons to diamond jewelry, artwork, dinner for 10 at the Sacramento Observatory, or a weekend in Yosemite and more.
Enjoy live jazz music, coffee and cheese and crackers between samples of cake. Local celebrities will be there to serve you.
You will be amazed at the cakes and truly inspired by the stories of how Closing the Gap is making an impact on the lives of families across Sacramento. It’s a fun event for a very serious issue – closing the academic achievement gap in our schools.
